As a freelance writer at Oscar, I wrote content for emails, product marketing, UI strings, blog posts, and sales materials (occasionally in Spanish), using a straightforward and human voice in order to uphold the company’s mission to make healthcare accessible to everyone. I also worked closely with Marketing, Business Development, and Product in order to edit and streamline content and ensure proper grammar, voice, and, tone across acquisition efforts and member communications.
Oscar CRM
Engagement emails are always a fun departure from consumer-focused acquisition communications. For the Open Enrollment 2015 period, I worked closely with a product manager on a content calendar and outline of all the new features we wanted to highlight for all Oscar members.
Here are some examples of the emails I wrote, all of which we versioned into blog posts for the Oscar tumblr.
Oscar Consumer Brochure
For Open Enrollment 2015, I worked closely with the Director of Marketing at Oscar to revamp their consumer brochure, which needed some writing upkeep. Oscar uses this as an acquisition piece at marketing events and health insurance info sessions.
The book now clocks in at 26 pages, and I’m grateful to have had a hand in their membership growth during Open Enrollment 2015.

Oscar CVS Brochure
I worked closely with Oscar’s marketing team to create a simple three-panel brochure in English and Spanish for their member acquisition efforts during the 2015 Open Enrollment period. These brochures were placed in CVS stores throughout the Oscar coverage area at the time (New York and New Jersey).
The brochures flew off the shelves pretty quickly, and soon the Marketing and Business Development teams requested a Spanish version, which I also wrote.

Oscar Acquisition Emails
Along with out-of-home advertising, which you couldn’t miss if you lived in the New York City metro area, marketing emails were a huge part of Oscar’s Open Enrollment efforts. We sent email blasts to warm leads and partnered with relevant organizations and sites like Greatist and Park Slope Parents in order to educate our target audience about the product and the Open Enrollment deadline.
We frequently conducted A/B tests with subject lines and body copy, and saw varying conversion rates depending on the target and type of email.
I’m grateful to have had a hand in their membership growth over the 2015 Open Enrollment period.
Oscar One-Sheets
For the 2015 Open Enrollment period, I worked with Oscar’s marketing team to create benefits one-sheets for brokers and sales reps to distribute at events. Each card features a nice summary of Oscar’s benefits, with one card focusing on the Affordable Care Act and the other on the Open Enrollment deadline and the tax penalty you could receive if you’re uninsured.
