As a writer at Kickstarter, I wrote and edited content for emails, UI strings, and marketing and brand pages intended to promote our creative community and encourage people to support their projects. I also collaborated with designers to develop the content strategy for features across the platform, and worked closely with cross-functional teams on all launches. On occasion I assisted with Spanish translations, advised on UI decisions to accommodate for internationalization, and conducted testing for string optimization.

Kickstarter’s Impact Page
This editorial feature celebrates Kickstarter’s best and brightest independent creators whose projects have had an impact on society, culture, and the economy. The hope is that each story will inspire prospective creators—artists, musicians, designers, authors, et al—and give them the courage to launch their own projects if they have an idea they want to bring to life.
I interviewed Kickstarter creators from Portland to Tokyo to the UK and beyond. After culling and transcribing all their responses, and writing all the stories, the designer and I collaborated on the content strategy for the page, which we then fashioned into our first iteration of the design. After shifting the strategy to focus less on the University of Pennsylvania’s economic impact report about Kickstarter and more on the stories themselves, the page evolved into something more editorial and was built to grow over time.
Kickstarter CRM
I worked closely with the Email Marketing Manager on all transactional and engagement emails Kickstarter sends to their huge community of backers and creators. My favorite project was our redesign of the email sent when a friend has backed a project.
This refresh involved writing a clearer subject line, dynamically listing the type of project in the header, adding the default project image, and showing the funding progress to further encourage people to click through to learn more and back the project.
